Why bother with screen design when you can fire up Logic’s “Ultrabeat” plugin…?
by Steve Blacker on Jul.24, 2009, under General
Saw this posted over at kvraudio.com – pretty funny. Apparently this is a screen capture from the TV show “Dollhouse” showing agents “analyzing” a phone call using Logic’s “Ultrabeat” drum machine plugin…

Cinema 4D
by Steve Blacker on Jul.14, 2009, under General
I’ve recently started to learn some Cinema 4D – it’s a great app, particularly for motion graphics type stuff. Here’s a little render using some GI, just for fun. (Click the image below for a larger version).
All quiet on the Eastern Front…
by Steve Blacker on Jul.09, 2009, under General
It’s pretty quiet around here – I’ve been busy working on new motion graphics projects, some 3D modelling and animation, a bit of matte painting and various other bits and pieces. Just got the Trapcode Particular 2 update today, it rocks! Too bad my old P4 chokes as soon as things start to get interesting…
Greyscalegorilla “5 Second Challenge” entry
by Steve Blacker on Jun.18, 2009, under General
This morning I decided I’d create something for the 5 Second Challenge that Nick Campbell runs (weekly, I think?) over at greyscalegorilla.com Nick provides a subject, and it’s up to you to create something using that as your inspiration. Fitting much of anything into 5 seconds is always a challenge…
Anyway, here’s my entry:
Officially done…

Graduated on Saturday: diploma (with Honours) in Interactive & Motion Graphics (Visual Effects Specialization).
It’s a good feeling to be officially finished with college, now I’m looking forward to starting some exciting new projects and continuing my search for a job.
The job search continues…

…and I’m also working on some animation / sound design experiments. Hopefully some of these will make their way onto my new motion graphics reel (under construction now).
I found myself feeling a bit of creative block just recently, needing a bit of inspiration. Well, there’s plenty of that right here:
Star Trek
by Steve Blacker on May.21, 2009, under General
Went to see the new Star Trek movie at the IMAX theatre yesterday. Loved it – really well done. Sweet visuals and the sound design was great, too. Thought the lens flares were slightly overdone
,but all in all a fun film. Andrew Kramer did a great job on the titles, too. Looking forward to the next installment (or two?).
The long weekend…

…is over. Shame about the weather, but had some friends in town from Ottawa, went down to the cottage and did the usual barbecue, beer and camp fire things. Fun times!
Back to work on my motion graphics reel and the ongoing search for gainful employment. Not a lot going on in Halifax, it seems, so I’m looking at opportunities in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver at the moment. Who knows, at this rate I may end up with a job back in the UK…
